Brockton restaurant reopens after fire
By Jean Porrazzo, Enterprise staff writer
BROCKTON — A minor fire Friday night caused workers and diners to evacuate Bertucci's Brick Oven Ristorante at 1285 Belmont St., Deputy Chief Edward Mack said.
When firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of the gap between the sheetmetal backing of the stoves under the range hood, Mack said.
“The fire was too small for the sprinkler heads to operate,” Mack said.
The restaurant was open for business on Saturday.
The call came in at 7:10 p.m. and firefighters cleared the scene at 8:37 p.m., he said. There were no injuries.
The cause is probably grease buildup in the area that ignited, Mack said. Damages are estimated at $15,000.
Firefighters used a pre-connected line off the truck to extinguish the fire, Mack said. Engine 2, Engine 5, squad a and ladder 1 responded to the scene.
